Optional Practical Training Webinar Recording

For frequently asked questions and answers related to OPT, please visit the following webpages: F-1 students interested in having practical work experience in the U.S. after completing their academic program are encouraged to attend an OPT workshop or webinar.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment available to F-1 students. The employment must be related to the student's field of study and commensurate with the student's education level. F-1 students may be eligible for up to 12 months of OPT per degree level. Attend the OPT workshop or webinar to learn more about how to request this F-1 work authorization and how it can be utilized after graduation.

F-1 international students interested in participating in an internship or co-op are highly encouraged to attend a CPT workshop. However, due to the current COVID-19 situation, we are setting up webinars for anyone who didn't participate in an in-person CPT workshop. 

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is off-campus work authorization for employment (whether it is paid or unpaid), such as an internship or co-op, for F-1 international students to receive further training. Come and learn how to obtain CPT authorization from ISS and what you will need to do to remain in status while you are authorized for CPT. This workshop/webinar will discuss the requirements, how to request authorization, and other information related to CPT.

STEM OPT Extension Webinar


For frequently asked questions and answers related to STEM OPT, please visit the following webpages:

The STEM OPT extension is a 24-month period of temporary training that directly relates to an F-1 student's program of study in an approved STEM field. 

Eligible F-1 students with STEM degrees who finish their program of study and participate in an initial period of regular post-completion OPT (often for 12 months) have the option to apply for a STEM OPT extension.

SEVP Guidance Webinars

On Friday, July 24th, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) issued guidance for the fall 2020 semester. The updated guidance can be found at the following links:   

Additionally, the Department of State published guidance and an FAQ regarding SEVP Online Course Guidance for F and M Students for Fall 2020 which can be found at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/sevp-online-course-guidance-for-f-and-m-students-for-fall-2020.html 

Students and scholars with J-1 status can find Information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Department of Status Exchange Visitor Program at https://j1visa.state.gov/covid-19/

ISS hosted a Q&A webinar on Thursday, July 16 after the initial SEVP Guidance on July 6.
We used the information provided from a Qualtrics survey to address questions and concerns by TAMU international students regarding the SEVP Guidance.

ISS hosted a Tax Information Webinar on international student taxes and COVID-19.

DHS Proposed Regulations Webinar

The Department of Homeland Security announced proposed F-1 and J-1 regulations. The proposed regulations are proposing the elimination of duration of stay and replacing it with 4 year or 2 year admission periods.  

These webinar was a briefing about the Department of Homeland Security proposed regulations. However, these are just "proposed". We don't know if or when this may be in effect. ISS will keep you informed about the status of the proplosed regulations.

Aggie Honor System Office serves as a centralized organization established to educate Texas A&M University students, faculty, and staff about the Aggie Code of Honor, respond to potential academic misconduct by Texas A&M students, and facilitate remediation efforts for students found responsible for violations of the Aggie Code of Honor​. https://aggiehonor.tamu.edu/

Terra Dotta Webinars

ISS Technology Coordinator, Martin Rosales, presented two webinars on the Terra Dotta system. 

Both webinars explored what has changed with the Terra Dotta system.
  • The first webinar for students covered tips and tricks on finding information on your record, how to get that information updated, and other questions related to Terra Dotta.
  • The second webinr for faculty and staff covered viewing info from the student side, recommendations for staff to assist students with requests, and other qusetions related to Terra Dotta.
Both webinars followed with a Q&A after the presentations.
