Distance Learners

For more information about Distance Education at Texas A&M University, please visit http://distance.tamu.edu

Any Texas A&M University student who is not a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident is considered to be an international student.

If the student will be physically located outside the U.S. during their enrollment, the following should be emailed to iss@tamu.edu. No action will be required in Terra Dotta at this time.
  • An email from the student’s academic department at Texas A&M University stating that the student is currently outside the U.S. and will be taking courses by distance education. The email should include the student’s full name and UIN.
Please note that if the student and the academic program decide that the student should come to the United States, then they should consult ISS about receiving an I-20 or DS-2019.  Tourist visa regulations restrict studying in the United States.
Newly admitted international students in statuses other than F-1 or J-1 should complete the New Students Other Immigration Status Check-In program through Terra Dotta in order to have the ISS Check-In registration hold removed. Please visit http://iss.tamu.edu/Prospective-Students/You-are-admitted-Now-What for detailed instructions about the New Students Other Immigration Status Check-In program.

The Texas A&M University System requires all international students with F-1 or J-1 status to be covered under the Texas A&M University System Student Health Insurance Plan (SSHIP) or have equivalent insurance coverage that meets specific waiver criteria.
