ISS Portal

International students will now be able to submit applications to International Student Services online through the ISS Portal at https://issportal.tamu.edu. ISS Portal is an online submission system that allows students to fill out forms online and upload any supplemental documents, as necessary.

The system also features tracking capabilities so that the students can track the status of their application. ISS Portal has been created in order to increase efficiency and transparency of student applications submitted to ISS.

At this time, ISS has a limited amount of applications available for students to submit through ISS Portal. ISS will expand the applications available in ISS Portal as soon as possible.

Social Security Letter Requests for F-1 and J-1 Students
International Students: Students are advised by ISS to meet with their academic department in order to discuss any requests submitted to ISS that will need approval from their academic department. After meeting with their academic departments, students will be responsible for starting the application in ISS Portal. The student will answer all appropriate questions on the Student Form and submit to their department for approval by indicating specific academic department representative(s) to review the submitted request, if required.

Academic Advisors, Graduate Advisors, and/or Faculty Members: Before processing various international student requests, ISS is required by U.S. federal regulations to obtain information about the student’s academic situation, such as the following:

  • Academic standing
  • Academic progress
  • Estimated date of graduation
  • How it relates to major and degree level
Step 1

International Students
International students will log into ISS Portal and fill out the Student Form and upload supplemental documents, as required. If the application requires academic department review and approval, students will select an appropriate academic advisor from their department to review their request(s) before they are submitted to ISS.
  • Undergraduate students will only be required to select an Academic Advisor.
  • Graduate students will be required to select an Academic Advisor and the Graduate Advisor/Department Head.

Academic Department
Once the student submits the application in ISS Portal, the request will be sent electronically to the academic department for review, if necessary. The academic department advisor and graduate advisor/Department Head (if applicable) will receive a notification via email to log into ISS Portal and review the application. The academic department will review the Student Form and fill out the Department Form. If the application is approved by the academic department, it will be sent electronically to International Student Services for processing.

Step 2

ISS Processing
Once the application is submitted to International Student Services (ISS), and ISS advisor will review the application and process the request. The student and academic department will be notified if any additional actions are needed and once the request has been completed by ISS.

ISS can provide an in-person workshop on ISS Portal procedures to academic departments by appointment. Please contact us if you are interested in ISS providing this type of workshop to your department.
